About The Book
This is the story of a Tibetan refugee born into an aristo-cratic land-owning family in Tibet. When he was only three years old monks from a distant monastery recognized him as their reincarnated abbot and took him away to fulfill his monastic duties. Not long afterward he had to flee his homeland leading his small company of monks through the Himalayas to India. They were only one step ahead of the pillaging Chinese army.
We follow the fortunes of Kharting Rinpoche who was penniless and unrecognized known simply as Tenzin struggles to find meaning and fulfillment in life as an exile
Several rare photographs allow a glimpse into a world that is gone forever.
Prologue
During my visit to Switzerland in 1998 I spent a long cold winter night with my friends Alain and Michel inside their little log hut in the middle of a forest near the Swiss Alps. The bitter snowstorm outside prevented us from venturing out to the nearby towns which I wanted to see otherwise. The cozy hut was heated by the fire from a little stove in the corner fuelled by dry wood logs like the good old days of my early life. To match this serene atmosphere I started talking about some of my life s strange events which continued to unfold one after another like stormy sea waves.
