Takara Geta is one of the ancient Japanese folk tales about the importance of living a content and healthy spiritual life. Greed is one of the mental affections which obsures our wisdom eye to see the real cause of our misery and unhappiness. Geta is a traditional Japanese wooden clog [footwear] still being used in monasteries by monks today. This story is about a devoted young man who looks after his ailing mother. He lives a content life despite the opportunity to become rich. On the other hand there is a rich man whose greed blinds him to see what he already has. In an effort to pass on this ancient wisdom to a young modern audience I have translated and adapted this Japanese folk tale into Tibetan and English. I hope children around the world will learn the positive aspect of the meaning of contentment and enjoy the book.
