Tibetan Medicine a Unique and Comprehensive Amalgamation of Science Art and Philosophy
About the Book
Tibetan Medicine is a unique medical system that provides holistic health care to the body to the mind and also to the soul. The Tibetan Physician cures more than the patient s physical and psychological disorders. The Physician also works to free him from mental ignorance which is the root of all suffering. Tibetan Medicine defines ignorance as the inability to understand the non-existence of self and thus the resultant clinging to the self or ego.
Tibetan Medicine is a science an art and also a philosophy. It is a science because its fundamentals are systematically and logically integrated with a basic understanding of body and the mind and their connection to the environment. It is an art because the Tibetan Physician combines diagnostic techniques with love equanimity peace and compassion. It is a philosophy because it explains the
Buddhist principles of: karma impermanence ethics and altruism.
During the middle ages of the last millennium often referred to with good reason as "the dark ages" western medicine as we know it today to all intents and purposes was virtually non-existent. What little there was of medicine was primitive to say the least.
Modern man had long left the stone age behind and had become a very sophisticated animal in terms of discoveries (the world wasn t flat after all) language and culturally. Quite a few had become very sophisticated and more than a few were incredibly wealthy. Somewhat ironically however the least developed of western man s skills was the ability to repair himself.
In the middle centuries medicine was for the impoverished at least the domain of Barbers (hair cutters). The razor which would shave one mans beard was the same instrument which would later be used on another individual in order to "breathe" veina for the lening of blood (venesection).
